Overview

We are delighted to introduce our latest wellbeing activity, our new fortnightly Wellbeing Walking Group in Buckland, Newton Abbot.

The walk leaves from Buckland Community Centre and heads towards Kingsteignton and back, on the edge of Newton Abbot’s town centre. The Hackney Marshes contain an odyssey of wetland wildlife with an abundance of species to observe en route, including beetles, moorhens, sticklebacks, swans, and ducks. Fragments of an old orchard and ornamental plants exist from Green Hill House. It’s a short walk of approximately 3 miles, and being very accessible, you can drop out into nearby amenities. Alternate walking options exist and there can be a coffee stop if needed.

Increasing our activity levels and connecting with others can be a key strategy in lifting mood and reducing anxiety. Joining a walking group can be a wonderful way to start, one step at a time!

If you come along for a walk with us it will also give you the opportunity to have a chat about how you are feeling, and to discuss our range of wellbeing groups, courses, workshops and activities provided by BeWell@StepOne.

Registering for the walk
Pre-registration for the walk is advised, as this will help us get an idea of the numbers to expect, and allow us to notify you of any cancellations due to weather or Walk Leader holiday/illness etc. (Pre-Registration is not a pre-requisite however, and we can help you to register you on attending, so you can just turn up on the day).

Further recommendations and walk information:
Please remember to bring suitable footwear and clothing. We walk at a gentle pace allowing us to be as accessible as possible for all abilities and will do our best to pace the walk to the needs of our slowest walker where at all possible. If you do have any physical health conditions that would be adversely impacted by gentle to moderate walking, then please check with your GP before participating. Please also bring a completed ICE card with you in case of emergency.

We look forward to welcoming you.

This new wellbeing walk has been made possible thanks to the support of: Step One, Ramblers Wellbeing Walks, Active Devon and Buckland Support.
